(Agraria.pe) In 2024, 2,713 cooperatives were registered nationwide, showing an increase of 13.8% from the 2,384 cooperatives reported the previous year, according to Lesly Ocampo Olivera, head of the Cooperatives and Institutionality Directorate of the Ministry of Production (Produce). She indicated that, during the last five years, the number of cooperatives increased at an average rate of 10.5% per year. Thus, in 2019, 1,644 cooperatives were reported, in 2020 (1,710 cooperatives), in 2021 (2,043 cooperatives), in 2022 (2,195 cooperatives), 2023 (2,384 cooperatives), and 2024 (2,713 cooperatives). She detailed that of the 2,713 cooperatives registered the previous year, 1,341 cooperatives (49.4%) are from the agricultural sector. Before that date, only 30% of the cooperatives were agricultural.
