Egypt's peanut exports decreased by 12% in the 2019-2020 export season, with the country exporting about 36 thousand tons at a value of $ 56.5 million, compared to $ 64.2 million in the previous season. The Agricultural Crops Export Council has identified issues with improper packing and storage by exporters, leading to six shipments being rejected and threats from the European Union to stop importing Egyptian peanuts due to these violations. A committee has been formed to inspect filling and storage stations to ensure compliance, and exporters are being warned to adhere to requirements such as shipping in well-ventilated containers and under refrigeration.
