A fruit that is record-expensive for Moldova is cheaper than in Ukraine: how much does it cost

At the beginning of September, the average wholesale price for "fresh" plums in Moldova amounted to about 20 hryvnias per kilogram. This is the highest figure in five years, according to analysts from EastFruit. However, overall, plums are still 20-30% cheaper than in Ukraine or Poland. On the Moldovan market, the fruit is now cheaper than in all other European countries under price monitoring. This does not mean that Moldovan plums with their low price will capture the markets of neighboring countries, analysts point out. For example, in Germany and the Baltic countries, Polish plums dominate the fruit market – not cheap, but since it is from a neighboring EU country, it is closer and not as expensive to transport, and the quality of such goods is more stable. Therefore, producers will wait until Europe's stocks of its own plums are reduced. Then a noticeable increase in exports of Moldovan plums can be expected.
