Legislator Lucía Klug presented a project to create the Environmental Tax on Methane in Buenos Aires (TAMBA), with the aim of taxing emissions from livestock and channeling funds to improve urban waste management. The proposal generated immediate rejection from the sector due to the cost it would entail and the lack of technical support. The initiative by the deputy of Union for the Homeland (UxP) and linked to Juan Grabois, states that the tax is based on the principle of Extended Producer Responsibility and provides for the establishment of a trust fund, which would seek to compensate for the methane generated by livestock through the reduction of emissions achieved through proper management of urban solid waste, in line with what is provided in Law No. 13,592 on Integrated Management of Urban Solid Waste (GIRSU). The initiative states that the tax is based on the principle of Extended Producer Responsibility and provides for the establishment of a trust fund. REUTERS/Agustin ...
