Hungary's dry pasta market, which sells around 50,000 tons annually, is dominated by 4- and 8-egg pastas, with a growing interest in durum and whole wheat pastas. Despite challenges such as high costs for raw materials, energy, fuel, and logistics, labor shortages, and competition from cheap imports, the 150 Hungarian pasta producers remain committed to quality. These companies employ about 2,000 workers and export 30-35% of their products. The market is also seeing a rise in popularity of alternatives like reduced-carbohydrate, gluten-free, shaped, paleo, and egg-free dry pasta.
