Ukraine has seen a significant increase in potato starch exports to China, reaching nearly 1.1 thousand tons from September 2020 to January 2021, with China setting a record for imports from Ukraine. However, Ukrainian producers are facing challenges in their own market due to dumped imports from Belarus, leading to losses in domestic sales. The quality of Ukrainian starch is a key factor in its success in the Chinese market. However, opportunities for Ukrainian potato starch exports are limited in neighboring markets as they are supported by their governments for production. The European Union (EU) is a major exporter of potato starch, importing only a small amount from non-EU countries like Ukraine. Belarus and Poland are the main suppliers of potato starch to the Ukrainian market.
