Last week in Moldova, the minimum wholesale price for a walnut kernel increased by 13%, from 65 to 70 lei/kg ($3.74/kg). In fact, the minimum level caught up with the average level of prices for these products. And this is the price level of the bulk of transactions for the purchase and sale of a walnut kernel, so to speak - of ordinary quality (a mixed variety, a medium-sized or slightly darkened varietal kernel). The maximum price level for a high-quality kernel - about 75 lei / kg ($4 / kg) - has not changed, according to EastFruit.

Previously, the price of the walnut kernel on the Moldovan market rose for a short period of time in mid-December. At that time, export traders slightly (on average by the same 5 lei/kg as last week) raised purchase prices for a quality core, hoping for an increase in pre-Easter deliveries of goods to the European Union. Now the incentive for a small price increase is also special: on March 22, the month of Ramadan begins. In anticipation of and during this important period for Muslims, their diet is changing, in some countries it includes more energy-intensive plant foods, including nuts.
