Egypt has exported 10,456 honey bee parcels to Saudi Arabia since lifting a ban, according to the country's Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Al-Qaseer. The exported bees are examined by Saudi Arabia's Plant Protection Research Institute and must meet strict requirements, including disease and pest-free status as per the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE). The export process involves collaboration between Egypt's General Authority for Veterinary Services, Agricultural Research Center, and the Central Administration for Foreign Agricultural Relations. Egypt has been self-sufficient in honey bees for five years and has not imported bees for the past five years.
