Vietnam: American red plums cost half a million VND per kilogram

Since the beginning of July, Vietnamese plums are out of season, the market is flooded with fruits of the same type imported from Australia, Japan and recently the US. American red plums have an appearance similar to Vietnamese plums but the fruit is twice as big, and are popular with many customers despite their high prices. At imported fruit stores, this fruit costs up to 500,000 VND per kg, an increase of 10-20% compared to last year. Ms. Huyen Anh (District 5, Ho Chi Minh City) shared that every year she hunts to buy American red plums at the beginning of the season. This year, she spent 3 million VND to order 2 boxes (3 kg each) from an acquaintance. "This type of plum tastes very different from Vietnamese products because of its sweet taste.
