Pará, the leading cocoa bean producer in Brazil, is experiencing a significant decrease in the market value of cocoa beans, with a kilo now selling for R$ 11 to R$ 13, down from R$ 15 last year. Producers in the southern part of the state are protesting this undervaluation by suspending sales of artisanal products for 30 days, a protest that does not directly impact chocolate production this year. The producers are seeking to increase the product's value and are hopeed to receive support from authorities. The State Secretariat for Agricultural and Fisheries Development (Sedap) has been contacted for comment but has not responded yet.
