The Pork Reflection Group, which includes representatives from EU Member States and various agricultural organizations, has issued a final report calling for changes in the European Union's pork industry. The report emphasizes the need for EU pork producers and processors to diversify their export markets, reducing dependence on large buyers and unreliable partners, especially China. It also urges strengthening cooperation among pig farmers through producer organizations and cooperatives, with support for family farms to prevent the concentration of pig production. The report highlights the importance of sustainable manure management, emission reductions, and biogas solutions based on manure, residues, and waste. It also stresses the need for improved biosecurity measures in the pig sector, including support for wild boar hunting and development of African swine fever vaccines for both wild boar and domestic pigs.
