The National Association of Garlic Producers and Marketers (ANPCA) has reported a 14% decrease in the cultivated area for the 2024 garlic campaign compared to 2023, particularly in purple garlic. Despite this reduction, marketable production remains similar to last year due to higher yields and favorable weather. International demand has fallen short of expectations due to competition from China, Egypt, and Turkey, as well as increased local production in Brazil. ANPCA is addressing the decline in purple garlic cultivation by promoting sustainable practices and clarifying EU import tariffs. The association continues to be a key player in the European garlic market, representing a significant portion of Spain and Europe's garlic production.
