Vegetable production in Germany in 2025 reached a record 4.5 million tons, with asparagus remaining the leading crop in terms of area under cultivation. The cultivation of asparagus and onions accounts for almost a third of all vegetable acreage in the country, confirming the consistently high demand for these items. This is reported by Fruchtportal. German farmers allocated about 19.8 thousand hectares for asparagus, making it the leader among all vegetable crops in terms of planted area. Onions come in second with 17.9 thousand hectares. In total, the area under open-field vegetables increased by 3.9% to 130.4 thousand hectares.
