The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) has reported a significant decrease in the production of citrus fruits, including lemons, oranges, and mandarins, for the 2023-2024 campaign in Argentina. Lemon production is expected to drop by 11% to 1,700,000 tons due to adverse weather conditions such as higher temperatures and excessive rainfall. Orange production is projected to decrease by 44% to 650,000 tons, and mandarin production is expected to decrease by 30% to 280,000 tons, also due to weather-related issues and a more severe than expected drought. These challenges, along with overproduction and stagnant demand, have led to economic difficulties for Argentine citrus producers.
