Peru's Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Elizabeth Galdo, announced plans to export donkey meat to China, sparking controversy due to the country's minimal production and lack of tradition in consuming or exporting this meat. John Chauca, president of the National Association of Beef Producers, pointed out that donkeys are mainly used as pack animals in rural areas and that the infrastructure for processing donkey meat is limited. Despite this, Galdo highlighted China's interest in donkey meat for traditional medicine and beauty products, noting it is a niche market and that the decision to export will depend on exporters' interest and production capacity.
