(Sejong=Yonhap News) Reporter Sin Seon-mi = The Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation (aT) announced on the 30th that it will purchase 4,000 tons of summer cabbage to respond to supply uncertainties caused by summer heat waves and heavy rains.
The purchase will begin next month, focusing on major highland regions such as Pyeongchang and Jeongseon in Gangwon Province, and Gangneung. The schedule and quantity will be adjusted flexibly considering the growing conditions and harvest times of each region.
aT will stockpile the purchased cabbage and supply it to the market if supply uncertainties occur.
As of yesterday, the retail price of one cabbage was 5,445 won, similar to last year but 6.7% higher than the average.
aT Supply Director Moon In-cheol said, "We will do our best to ensure stable supply and price stability of cabbage."
