The Atakum Municipality has successfully increased its first harvest of heirloom karakılçık wheat from 5,000 to 55,000 square meters by sharing seeds with local farmers, leading to a 10-fold increase in production. This crop, sown on land belonging to 10 farmers across Atakum, has the potential to bring significant economic benefit due to its high protein, nutritional value, and the premium price fetched in the market for its ground bark flour. The hardy wheat variety also offers natural protection against wildlife, further increasing its appeal. The municipality's initiative aims to enhance the income of rural farmers by cultivating this valuable crop.
