Avocado and the European market: High development potential

The European demand for avocados is constantly growing. The increase in volumes on the market will continue to push consumption and in 2030 avocado will probably be the second best-selling tropical fruit in the world, immediately after bananas. This was argued by OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development) and FAO (United Nations Organization for Food and Agriculture) in the Agricultural Outlook 2021/30 report which reads: "Avocado will exceed the volume of exports of pineapple and mango. A growing global demand and large investments in production are the basis of this expansion ”. Although avocado has the lowest production among the main tropical fruits, its growth exceeds that of other fruits. The volume of global production is expected to reach 12 million tons, tripling the values of ten years ago.
