Cyclone Michaung caused extensive damage to potato crops in Bangladesh, particularly in Munshiganj, where an estimated 3.18 lakh tonnes of potatoes were lost, leading to a substantial financial setback for farmers. The cyclone also impacted various other crops, including mustard, and caused damage to a total of 48,556 hectares of agricultural land across 15 districts in the country. Farmers are facing significant losses and potential shortages of potato seeds for the upcoming planting season, with some estimating losses of lakhs of taka. Cyclone Michaung, which struck India on December 5th, unleashed two days of relentless rain on Bangladesh, affecting crops in 15 districts, including Dhaka, Munshiganj, Narayanganj, Narsingdi, and Manikganj.
