The new Animal Welfare Codex, which bundles existing and new regulations, has been approved by the Flemish Government and will soon be presented to the Flemish Parliament for final approval. Once approved, it will replace the current Animal Welfare Act. The new rule on mandatory shelter will apply to all animals, including those that only spend time on pasture during the day, with the exception of animals that have free range access between the pasture and their stable. No financial resources are currently provided for farmers to cover the costs of providing this shelter.
