In 2022, Belgium saw a decrease in the number of animals slaughtered, with a total of 25.83 million animals slaughtered each month. Chickens were the most slaughtered at 24.8 million per month, followed by pigs at 8.77 million. The number of pigs slaughtered was 9% lower than in 2021 and 5% lower than in 2020. Cattle numbers also saw a decrease, with 2% fewer cattle slaughtered in 2022 compared to 2021. Overall, 298 million chickens, 60,000 turkeys, 8,000 sheep, 3,000 ducks, 2,000 goats, 4,000 other poultry, and 110 horses were slaughtered monthly in Belgium.
