Brazil, a leading avocado producer, is increasing its plantations to meet both internal and external demand, as consumption grows. Avocado production in the country increased by 50% from 10.9 to 16.4 thousand hectares between 2016 and 2020, despite climatic variations affecting harvest. The Southeast is the main avocado-producing region in Brazil, but other states like Ceará are also increasing their harvest. María Cecilia Whately, president of the Brazilian Avocado Association, stresses the importance of fruit quality, certification, marketing, and communication in increasing production and consumption of avocados for export.
