Brazilian olive oil gains prominence in the national and international market

Brazil is known for its diversity of agricultural products, but few know that the country also produces quality olive oil. Although most of the national consumption is still imported oils, there is a growing demand for national oils, especially those produced in the South region. According to data from the International Olive Council (COI), consumption of olive oil in Brazil went from 143g per inhabitant per year in 2004 to 410g in 2019, an increase of almost 200%. However, only about 5% of this consumption is met by national production, which is still incipient and faces climatic and logistical challenges.
