The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection in Dhaka, Bangladesh, has identified a price discrepancy in broiler chicken, with some retailers charging as much as Tk280 per kilogram, significantly higher than the government-set maximum price of Tk200. They have also threatened action against market management committees that fail to comply with regulations. The price hike is especially concerning as it follows a significant increase in beef prices, making these proteins increasingly unaffordable for the average consumer.
