Beet area falls 1.1% to 1,386,000 hectares The European Commission has recently published a report on sugar production in the EU during the 2021/2022 campaign, highlighting that it has reached 16,083,356 tons, which represents an increase of 10.5% in relation to the campaign previous when they were 14,546,556. As regards the surface of beet, in that campaign, it stands at 1,386,000 hectares, down 1.1% compared to the previous one when it stood at 1,401,000 hectares. Finally, the average yield of tons of sugar obtained per hectare of beet stands at 12 in 21/22 compared to 10.5 in the later one, which represents a rise of 35.5% between the campaign. COUNTRIES Germany remains the main producer of sugar in the European Union with 4,577,825 tons, rising 8.6% compared to the previous one when they were 4,211,919.
