Brussels simplifies regulations on organic production

The European Commission has proposed the introduction of a series of modifications to the regulation on organic production to simplify it. In particular, the text clarifies the conditions under which the EU organic logo can be used for products imported from third countries whose standards are considered equivalent. Brussels proposes that these products respect certain additional production and control requirements to comply with a ruling by the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) from October 2024. Furthermore, it considers that the recognition of third countries whose organic production and control systems are considered equivalent to those of the EU, which will expire on December 31, 2026, should "be maintained until December 31, 2036 in order to avoid any interruption of organic product exchanges."
