Kastamonu province in Turkey is set to expand buckwheat cultivation as part of the 'Buckwheat Breeding and Expansion Project in Kuzyaka Karaçomak Basin'. The project, in collaboration with the Bahri Dağdaş International Agricultural Research Institute and the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, aims to cultivate the crop across 20 villages, with demonstration planting in four villages. The project aims to utilize buckwheat in various applications such as animal and bee nutrition, green fertilizer, soil regulator, dietary plant, and medicinal plant. In 2020, 130 decares of buckwheat were planted, with plans to expand to around a thousand decares in 2021. The project was approved by the ministry and aims to monitor the harmony and efficiency of the region through demonstrations.
