The National Fisheries Institute (NFI), which represents over 300 US seafood companies, is advocating for the continuation of Russian seafood supplies, arguing that the ban on imports could harm the American fish processing industry and lead to job losses. The NFI suggests imposing duties on Russian seafood instead. However, this view is opposed by Trident Seafoods, a major US seafood producer, which has left the NFI in protest. The ban has already led to a significant decrease in supply and increase in prices. Meanwhile, an expert suggests that the ban on Russian pollock will not significantly impact Russian enterprises as they have not been supplying directly to the US for a long time, but will instead impact American processors and consumers.
