Café and meats drive food prices up in 2025 and put pressure on household budgets

The Brazilian consumer ended 2025 with the tightest budget due to the rise in prices of basic food products. The highlight was ground and powdered coffee, which saw a 40.7% increase between December 2024 and December 2025, according to the study “Price Variations: Brazil & Regions,” prepared by Neogrid, a technology and data intelligence company for the consumer chain. According to the survey, the average price of coffee rose from R$ 53.58 to R$ 76.36 in the period analyzed. The increase occurred despite a more robust national harvest: according to the National Supply Company (Conab), the 2025 harvest reached 56.5 million bags, an increase of 4.3% over the previous year. However, the 9.7% drop in the production of arabica coffee, the type most consumed domestically, ended up putting pressure on prices.
