Cambodia's government is trying to attract private investors to boost the country's animal feed production in order to cut down on imports, which currently account for nearly half of the demand. The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) has hosted a roundtable discussion to encourage local investment in the animal feed industry, as the country imports around $250 million to $300 million worth of animal feed and livestock-related products annually, primarily from Vietnam. Despite having over 10 local animal feed producers, high production costs and the allure of cheaper imported products have hindered them from operating at full capacity. The government is also taking steps to support local farmers and reduce imports of live pigs by up to 70%, in an effort to increase domestic production.
