Canada extends snow crab fishing season in parts of Newfoundland

The snow crab fishery began late in 2023 after a six-week price standoff that kept boats out of the sea. The situation was resolved only by May 19 - more than a month after the opening of the fishery on April 10. This late start has prompted the Fisheries Union, which represents fishermen in the province, to warn that the 2023 quota is unlikely to be reached.
