The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has signed a zoning agreement for African swine fever (ASF) with the Philippines as part of Canada's ongoing preparedness activities, helping to maintain access to the Filipino market while the CFIA fulfills its mandate to protect animal health. This agreement aims to allow the continuation of trade with ASF-free areas if the disease is detected in Canada. According to the agreement, trade restrictions on Canadian live swine, pork products, and related goods would be limited to the affected area, and would not apply to all of Canada. The Philippines are an important market for Canadian pork exports. In 2024, Canada exported approximately $279 million in pork and pork products to the Philippines.
