The Indian government is planning to procure tur, urad, and masur at Minimum Support Prices (MSP) to boost domestic production and reduce imports, as part of a broader strategy to achieve self-sufficiency in pulse production by 2027. This was announced by Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan during a virtual meeting with state agriculture ministers. The minister also introduced the e-Samridhi portal for farmer registration and urged state governments to encourage farmer participation. The government is also implementing several initiatives such as the New Model Pulses Village scheme, promotion of tur inter-cropping, establishment of 150 Pulse Seed Hubs, and development of climate-resilient and short-duration crop varieties to promote crop diversification and soil fertility restoration.
