Chile has reported its first case of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in domestic birds in the Chañaral de Aceituno area, Atacama Region. The disease was detected in a self-consumption backyard chicken coop and does not change the country's avian influenza-free status. The chicken coop has been depopulated, and the area disinfected and cleaned. Those affected will receive compensation from an activated insurance.
