Chile is nearing the goal of eradicating bovine brucellosis, a disease that has troubled livestock and public health for over half a century, positioning the country as a leader in animal health in Latin America. This achievement is the result of dedicated efforts by the Ministry of Agriculture, the Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG), and ranchers, with the support of strict measures such as mandatory quarantines, mass vaccinations, and constant surveillance. Only a few regions still report cases of the disease, which causes reproductive and health issues in cows and can be transmitted to humans, leading to severe symptoms. The eradication of bovine brucellosis is expected to boost Chile's international standing, improve the competitiveness of national producers, and contribute to public health by eliminating a significant source of infection.
