China buys French barley

Chinese customers have bought at least 5-6 more large lots of French barley from last year's harvest in the past 3 weeks, while leaving previous quantities agreed at the end of November, Reuters reported, citing its sources in trade circles. The result is serious support for grain exports from France, the agency commented. Traders specify that the batches are about 60 thousand.

The result is serious support for grain exports from France, the agency commented. The traders specify that the batches are about 60 thousand tons, and the deliveries will be made in the first half of the year, mainly from January to March-April. Estimates by other traders, however, point to barley supplies of at least 10-15 ships, or up to 900,000 tons. The assumptions are that it is forage and not malting barley. Traders, however, do not expect China to continue active purchases of French barley products, mainly because of the increase in its prices and the New Year holidays in China.
