In 2023, China's dairy imports saw a decrease of 12% to 2.8781 million tons, with a value of US$12.082 billion. The major categories that saw a drop were large package powder, condensed milk, and packaged milk, while whey powder and cheese saw growth rates of 9.4% and 22.5% respectively. The country's dairy exports increased by 30% to 58,100 tons, primarily to Hong Kong. There was also a decrease in hay imports by 44.8% and an increase in oat grass imports by 52.3%. The main sources of dairy imports were the EU, New Zealand, and the US.
