The Brazilian Association of Producers and Exporters of Fruits and Derivatives (Abrafrutas) marks a milestone as China officially opens its market for imports of fresh Brazilian grapes, following years of negotiations and collaborations. This development is anticipated to significantly boost Brazil's agricultural exports, tapping into the vast consumer base and demand in China. The green light for exports was granted after a delegation of Chinese inspectors approved of Brazil's sustainable practices and strict phytosanitary controls. With China importing around US$ 600 million worth of grapes in 2023 and Brazil's grape production exceeding 1.7 million tons, the market potential is immense, promising good profitability for Brazilian exporters and strengthening Brazil's position as a leading producer of high-quality fruits.
