The Ministry of Agriculture criticized China for lifting a ban on Taiwanese grouper imports in a politically selective manner, with the Chinese General Administration of Customs announcing the resumption of imports from selected Taiwanese fisheries. The MOA expressed disappointment and criticized China for unilaterally selecting several fish farms, despite recognizing Taiwan's overall improvement in quality control, and said the move was politically motivated. Pingtung County Magistrate Chou Chun-mi questioned Beijing's intent, as the announcement came just 20 days ahead of Taiwan's presidential election, and expressed hope for fair trade and fair elections, while some Pingtung County fishermen welcomed the resumption of exports to China.
