A collaborative project titled CleanSEED, led by Mississippi and involving over 30 US experts, has been launched with a budget of $4.8 million to address issues threatening the sustainability of the $680 million US sweet potato crop. The project aims to combat viruses, pests, and diseases that pose a threat to seed potatoes through advanced research and extension efforts. Funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Institute of Food and Agriculture, the project will also focus on promoting the adoption of clean seed potato technology among growers. This initiative is set to enhance industry collaboration and standardize clean seed terminology through partnerships with the National Clean Plant Network's six 'Clean Plant Centers'.
