11 crops most vulnerable to drought are announced in Taiwan

In response to the impact of agricultural drought caused by climate change, the Council of Agriculture announced its assessment of 11 drought-sensitive crops that are susceptible to drought and the largest area of 4,800 hectares of tea. It also proposes a short-, medium- and long-term adjustment strategy. The medium-term strategy is to implement a regional crop rotation system. It will be based on the “four selections from three rice crops” policy implemented by the Agriculture and Food Agency in January next year to encourage rice cropping in two and four phases as one of the phases. Crops such as dry crops are used to reduce agricultural water demand. Climate change has affected Taiwan’s long-term rainfall trend. This year’s drought has been severe.
