The Italian agricultural association, Coldiretti, has criticized the European Union for allowing the import of non-EU products, including bananas, rice, hazelnuts, tomatoes, strawberries, shrimps, rice, and beans, that were produced using child labor. The association is particularly concerned about the EU's negotiated free trade agreement with Mercosur countries, some of which have been accused by the US Department of Labor of exploiting child labor. Coldiretti is calling for stricter regulations and the extension of the obligation to indicate the origin of food products to allow consumers to make informed purchasing decisions.
