The Netherlands implemented a policy rule in 2020 to protect animals during transportation in high outside temperatures of 35 degrees Celsius or higher. However, a motion was passed in the House of Representatives to lower the maximum temperature for animal transports to 30 degrees Celsius by spring 2023. Stakeholders in the agriculture sector can provide their input on this decision, but the Agriculture Minister does not believe reducing the temperature further to 25 degrees Celsius is realistic due to enforceability and feasibility concerns.
