APM Terminals reported that as of February 8, a non-intrusive inspection scanner for pineapple containers began to be implemented at the Moín dock (Costa Rica). By-products, such as dried pineapple, candied preserves, jams, and juices will also be scanned. The company explained that the measure is taken with the objective of guaranteeing the safety and positive image of Costa Rican exports in international markets, since pineapple exports are those with the highest risk of contamination with drugs. The guideline was agreed by representatives of APM Terminals, in conjunction with the National Chamber of Pineapple Producers and Exporters (Canapep), Customs and the Treasury.
