In 2020, Costa Rica emerged as the leading exporter of fresh or dried bananas in Central America with exports valued at €924 million. Guatemala followed in second place with €793 million, followed by Honduras, Panama, and Nicaragua. The export value of bananas from the region increased by 7% from 2019 to 2020, reaching €2.325 billion. The United States was the primary market, receiving 65% of the bananas, while the Netherlands saw the most growth among secondary markets, accounting for 10% of exports in 2020.
