Cotton farming loses momentum in MT due to area contraction

The latest projection from the Mato-grossense Institute of Agricultural Economics (Imea) indicates a reduction in the area and production of cotton in Mato Grosso for the 2025/26 crop season. According to the report, cotton farming is expected to occupy 1.42 million hectares in the state, which represents a contraction of 0.83% compared to the previous estimate and 8.06% compared to the previous crop season. Since the initial analyses, Imea has already pointed out that the high production costs would be one of the main factors for the contraction in the planted area. With profitability margins under pressure, many producers have been reevaluating the investment in the crop, opting for more cautious strategies in this new cycle.
