The Cuban agricultural landscape is shifting away from intensive agrochemical practices due to import problems and the high cost of synthetic inputs, particularly for potatoes. The focus of the authorities is on creating a sustainable production system for organic potatoes with adapted varieties, despite their inferior yield compared to imported commercial seeds. The emerging Cuban trend of growing organic potatoes is supported by the Cuban Agricultural Group's plan to plant about 600 hectares of organic potatoes using national seeds, with the projected yield of 22.5 tons per hectare with imported seeds and 17 tons per hectare with domestic seeds.
