The District Municipality of Pichari, in the Cusco region, through the Tropical Fruits project, carried out the first harvest of dragon fruit in the demonstration plot located in the populated center of Natividad, marking a milestone in the productive diversification of the Valley of the Rivers Apurímac, Ene, and Mantaro (Vraem). The plants were sown more than a year ago from cuttings and managed under an adequate agroforestry system, which included fertilization, weeding, and pruning, conditions that allowed for optimal development of the crop. Among the varieties installed are Costarricense, hybrids A-1 and A-5, Orejona, and Undatus. In this first harvest, a total of 20 boxes of dragon fruit were obtained, which were transported for commercialization at the Saturday fair “From the Farm to the Pot,” promoting the consumption of local products and direct linkage between producers and consumers.
