Denmark has seen a 3% increase in its pig inventory, reaching 13.2 million head on 1 April, due to a rise in the breeding herd, particularly gilts intended for breeding. This expansion, which is expected to boost supplies, contrasts with trends in Germany and the Netherlands, where breeding pig numbers have declined. As a result, Denmark's pig slaughter has increased by 10% compared to last year, with the number of young pigs also rising. The Danish pig reference price has also surged from €143/100kg to nearly €175/100kg since the start of 2021, attributed to robust demand for Danish pork, improved access to the Chinese market, and tighter supplies in other European markets.
