Declining forecasts for the Italian garlic harvest

The Italian garlic campaign will start again in June and the forecasts on the production to be harvested indicate a contraction for our peninsula compared to the previous year. The reason is easy to tell and is explained by Francesco Delfanti, commercial director of the Delfanti company, based in Monticelli d'Ongina, in the province of Piacenza. “Due to cost uncertainties, producers have reduced the hectares dedicated to the product. Furthermore, in the north, we are again battling drought, like last year, and we are struggling to find enough water to ensure optimal bulb growth, while in the south, the situation is better because there is a high reserve of water in reservoirs”.
